JBANC Statement Condemning U.S. Imports of Russian Diesel

Washington D.C., October 10 The Joint Baltic American National Committee (JBANC) strongly condemns the U.S. agreement with Russia to import 300,000 tons of Russian diesel with millions more to follow. Every ton of Russian diesel sold contributes to Russia’s war effort and the continued attacks on civilians in Ukraine. In August 2026 alone, at least 372 civilians were killed and 2,349 injured in Ukraine.

Russia continues to undermine efforts for a durable peace, amid escalatory hybrid attacks on our Baltic allies including weaponized migration, arson, air incursions, and damage of critical infrastructure. Strong measures of accountability are needed in support of Ukraine and our NATO allies.

Last month, JBANC welcomed the passage of the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act, giving the administration tools to cut Russia’s revenue from energy sales. The decision to import Russian diesel directly undermines the goals of this legislation, which passed by strong bipartisan majorities in the House and Senate. Opening American markets to Russian energy sends a contradictory message on U.S. policy toward Moscow and risks providing Russia with additional revenue to sustain its war.

JBANC calls on President Trump to adhere to the principle of Peace Through Strength to hold Russian aggression accountable. Supporting Ukraine and maintaining economic pressure on Russia are essential to advancing a peace process that respects Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
