Washington, DC (JBANC) The President of Lithuania, Mr. Valdas Adamkus, will participate in a live webcast with the Joint Baltic American National Committee, Inc. (JBANC) from 9:30-10:00 a.m. (EDT) on Wednesday, September 12.
The focus of the webcast will be NATO enlargement. President Adamkus is in the United States next week for meetings with Administration officials, members of Congress and business leaders.
NATO enlargement is of special interest to the one million Baltic-Americans. The countries of their heritage, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, are striving to become further integrated with the transatlantic community of nations sharing common democratic values and principles.
There are currently ten aspirant countries that wish to join NATO. All the aspirants, including the three Baltic countries, have declared their goal to be invited at the next NATO Summit scheduled in November 2002 in Prague.
This interactive webcast is the second in a planned series on the issue of NATO enlargement.
In June, over 250 visitors logged in to the initial webcast featuring Bruce Jackson, of the U.S. Committee on NATO.
The September 12 webcast can be accessed through JBANC’s homepage: http://jbanc.org/studio.html. Following initial comments from President Adamkus, all on-line participants are invited to e-mail questions or comments to: jbanc@jbanc.org
A complete transcript will be available following the webcast.
JBANC represents the Estonian American National Council, Inc., the American Latvian Association, Inc. and the Lithuanian American Council, Inc.
