Dr. Stanislau Shushkevich, who served as independent Belarus's first head of state, received the Truman-Reagan Medal of Freedom on March 26, 2012. The award was given by the Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation, and the ceremony took place at the Heritage Foundation.
