JBANC representatives met with Congressman Christopher Smith (R-NJ) on April 14, 2011, to present him with JBANC's Baltic Democracy Award. Congressman Smith is one of the longest-serving Members of the House Baltic Caucus, and in his work with the Helsinki Commission, he has promoted human rights and democracy around the world. Congressman Smith has also been instrumental in his work in introducing and supporting H.R.515 -- Belarus Democracy Reauthorization Act of 2011.
Senator Benjamin Cardin (D-MD) was also a recipient of JBANC's Baltic Democracy Award this year. Previous JBANC Baltic Democracy Award honorees: 2007 - Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) 2003 - Sen.
